Because of the versatility that rubber flooring provides, the 3/8 inch thick tile from Greatmats is a very popular product. These tiles are easy to install, easy to clean, and provide excellent protection for the subfloor in areas where rough conditions exist.

With the interlocking design on these tiles, customers often are able to complete a DIY installation. This saves money in the long run, while creating a high quality floor that’s sure to last a long time.

Size and Shape Options

Our 2×2 rubber tiles each carry a little less than 4 square feet of coverage per tile. Because of the jigsaw puzzle style edge on all four sides of the tile, the tile has 0.08 feet of interlock loss. As a 3/8 inch thick tile, this model is thick enough to protect the subfloor in a home or commercial gym setting where people will be lifting weights and may drop them on the floor.

However, at 3/8 inches in thickness, these tiles don’t weigh a lot, which simplifies the installation process. Each tile weighs only 10 pounds, which is quite a bit less than a typical large 24×24 inch rubber tile.

Manufacturing tolerances for each of these tiles remain within 0.01 inches around the exterior border of the tile and in the thickness measurement.

Material Options

Customers can trust the quality of the recycled rubber crumbs that our U.S.-based manufacturer uses for this 3/8 inch thick tile product.

These rubber crumbs come from recycled rubber tires, which gives a second life to these tires and keeps them out of landfills. The recycled tires create a safe flooring surface for any use case, even when used around children or pets.

The manufacturer uses a polymerical binding process to adhere the crumbs, ensuring they will not break apart or flake away under stress. The 3/8 inch thick tile carries a 5-year limited manufacturer warranty, although most customers receive a far greater lifespan from this product.

Pattern and Texture Options

This particular model of 3/8 inch thick tile is only available in black, which is a common color for rubber tiling products. Black hides stains, which simplifies the cleaning process. (At Greatmats, we do offer some product options in this size of rubber tile that contain color flecks.)

Because rubber provides a natural texture with some grip, there is no need for the manufacturer to add raised areas or grooves to the surface to generate additional traction.

Common Use Options

These tiles work best as rubber gymnasium tiles, either at home or at a commercial fitness center. Place workout machines, such as stationary bikes, rowing machines, treadmills, or weight machines, over the top of the flooring, and the grip of the rubber floor will hold the machines in place.

Installers may place the tiles in areas where moisture is common, too, such as in locker rooms or basements. Rubber maintains an excellent level of traction, making it safer to use than many other styles of flooring.

Installation Options

Creating a secure layout with our 3/8 inch thick tile product is an easy process, even for those with no experience laying out rubber tiles. Just line up the tabs and slots on adjacent tiles and push them together. They will hold tightly in place without needing to use glue on the edges.

For a permanent installation, the installer can glue down the underside of these tiles, creating permanent adhesion to the subfloor. Apply the adhesive with a 1/16” U notch trowel, much like you would do with adhesive when installing ceramic tiles.

For a dry lay installation, just connect the interlocking edges of the tiles. The weight of the connected tiles will hold them in place. With a dry lay install, you later can disassemble them and place them in storage, returning to the subfloor, if desired.

Cleaning and Maintenance Requirements

Whether used at home or in a commercial location, our 3/8 inch thick tile remains a popular choice, in large part because of how easy it is to clean and maintain. Customers do not need to undertake any time-consuming cleaning processes to keep these tiles in top condition.

Sweep or vacuum these tiles on a regular basis to remove debris that could grind into the surface of the tile and cause staining.

When people are tracking dust from outdoors onto the rubber flooring layout in a high traffic area, customers should sweep or vacuum the area on a daily basis. In areas where tracking of dust is not common, sweeping once or twice per week should be sufficient.

Cleaning stubborn stains requires applying a cleaning solution with a mop to the affected area or to the entire flooring layout. Use a neutral pH cleaner diluted to the proper ratio with hot water. After mopping, allow the area to dry naturally in the air over a few hours.

Maintenance

Always use a neutral Ph cleaner on rubber flooring.
